Vaginal Hemorrhoids

Sometimes people have misconceptions about vaginal hemorrhoids and they confuse them with rectal hemorrhoids.

This is a case of mistaken identity that most female teenagers and adults should know about, and to some extent males who have a spouse with this condition.

Hemorrhoids are a health condition that usually takes place around the rectal or anal area. They happen because of the blood circulation to that area. There’s a large cushion of veins around the anal duct that is intended to aid in smooth bowel movements, but they are susceptible to being inflamed and therefore not in their natural shape and size. This can be exacerbated if there are other factors involved such as constipation, diarrhea or pregnancy that places tension on the affected areas.

This can lead to hemorrhoid, similar in a way to varicose veins, since they are simply blood vessels that have been engorged and stretched for a prolonged period of time.

They are most common in the rectal area since the connective tissue that surrounds them there is quite supple.

A Case Of Mistaken Identity

Blood vessels in the vaginal area are not very likely to have enough room to become inflamed and swollen since the connective tissue there is quite strong and flexible. The tissue will normally push the blood vessels back into their normal size and shape. So in the strictest sense of the term, vaginal hemorrhoid do not exist.

There are certain health conditions that can cause bulges or tags around the vaginal area, and these can be confused with hemorrhoids because of their appearance, somewhat like vaginal warts that are well known in the medical community. If you have discovered any type of abnormal growth in the vagina, it is important that you consult your doctor for an accurate diagnosis.

As well, in rare cases, ignoring the condition that you think are vaginal hemorrhoids, and not having them diagnosed can put you and your your partner in danger, as well as risk your ability to have children.

Internal hemorrhoids can often occur as prolapsed which means they are trapped outside the opening. It is possible for the vagina to be prolapsed, though that’s more common in older women, and is not linked to hemorrhoids.

If you have discovered something that you think may be a hemorrhoid in your vagina, it is almost always something else, a different health condition, which should be properly diagnosed. This is especially warranted if it is painful, irritated or bleeding.
